The Golden Age of Silent Movies, Wed. Oct 28, 7p.m.
Join us in the barn for a fun evening reliving the days of the silent movie! Pianist Richard Hughes will present a history of early movies with newsreels, cartoons, early comedy, historical drama, serial thrillers, slap-stick comedy featuring Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin, sight gags and chase scenes done by the king of sight gags, Buster Keaton, all presented with narration and musical accompaniment. Richard will also show sound effects and animation devices, including the praxinoscope.
Then, in time for Halloween, there will be a screening of Laurel and Hardy in the funny “Habeas Corpus,” a short film from 1924. Pull up a chair, bring a blanket for a potentially chilly evening, and enjoy hot apple cider and popcorn.
This program is co-presented with the Holliston Public Library and the Friends of the Library.
