Revolutionary War-era Day! Sat. November 2nd
As part of Holliston’s year-long 300th Anniversary Celebration, the public is invited to
the Holliston Historical Society at 547 Washington Street on Saturday, November 2,
from 10 to 4 to view demonstrations of Revolutionary War-era Military Camp Life and
see displays of military items from the Society’s collection. Admission is free.
Re-enactment members of the 10th Massachusetts Regiment, Colonel Bailey’s 2nd
Mass. Regiment, and the Royal Irish Artillery will set up an 18th Century Military
Encampment. Come see and experience artillery demonstrations, military drills with
muskets, a Regimental surgeon, examples of camp life, and children’s drills.
Demonstrations of 18th Century cooking, tailoring, laundry, spinning, woodworking, and
leatherwork will be ongoing throughout the event. The Royal Irish Artillery will conduct
cannon firings (using blank rounds that generate smoke and very loud bursts of noise)
at scheduled times during the day (schedule to be posted). Please note that the noise
might be disturbing to some individuals and pets.
Inside the Society’s Asa Whiting House will be displays showing weapons and military
items held in the Society’s collection, including uniforms from Civil War to WWII.
Displays will be open to the public from 10:00 to 12:15 and again from 1:00 to 4:00.
Proceeds from the sale of refreshments prepared by Historical Society members help to
support the programming efforts and operations of the Society. The menu at this event
includes soups, corn bread, mac & cheese and beverages. We hope to see YOU there!
