Baseball in Holliston? Presentation April 3rd
Text content
Joanne Hulbert, baseball aficionado, will present a program that will answer that question on Thursday, April 3rd at 7:30 PM in the Asa Whiting House, 547 Washington Street.
The presentation will be about the impact of baseball on the history, social life and culture of Holliston from the 1850s up to the present. Features of the presentation include why it was important to hold this program on Thursday, April 3rd and what that date has to do with baseball history. Well, the first Thursday of April was a state holiday –Fast Day–up until the 1890s, and that day also became the official “opening day” of baseball in Massachusetts.
Also, George Flagg, who once owned the property now occupied by the Holliston Historical Society and the location of the presentation, played a pivotal role in early baseball history that will be surprising to many.
Celebrate opening day with us and learn a thing or two about how baseball history changed Holliston- and Massachusetts – AND all of America! All are welcome. Refreshments will be served following the program.
